H-3 Aquatics is a small online aquatic pet store run by 3 homeschooled siblings, Charles, Henry and Anna Hunter, in South Dakota. We started our micro-business (H- Cubed Aquatics) as a 4-H project in the enterpenureship project area. Currently, we offer Guppies, Bettas and Ramshorn Snails. Coming soon: Angelfish, Mollies, Platies, Rams, Neocardinia Shrimp, Peacock Cichlids, and Bristlenose Plecos. Please check out our Adoption Pages too, for some fish needing rehomed.
Our Aquatics Store
With each fancy guppy pair, you will receive a male and a female. These will be mainly young "teenage" fish that are out of the fry stage and starting to "color up". Many of the females may come to you already bred and pregnant with fry. The fish you receive may be of any color or combination of colors and are not of a specific "guppy variety." We will send you healthy fish. We do not knowingly sell sick fish, though it is possible for the stress of the shipping process to cause a healthy fish to become ill, thus we recommend customers to quarantine new fish for a minimum of 2 weeks to observe them for any signs of illness or parasites. All our fish are routinely treated for internal parasites 4-6 times per year as a precaution to ensure good health.
Guppies are a live-bearing "toothcarp" species and give live birth to their young approximately every 30 days or so. Females are larger than the males, sometimes growing up to 2 1/2 inches in length. The female tends to be plainer in color, has a rounder abdomen and her anal fin is triangular in shape. Males display much more color and/or pattern than females (grow between .75" and 1.5" depending on type), have a thinner body shape and their anal fin is stick-shaped and is used for mating females. If you have a male guppy and a female guppy, soon you will have many guppies in your fish tank.
*We highly recommend a planted tank of 10 gallons or more with live plants for standard size guppies. Live plants use the nitrates produced in the Nitrogen Cycle from your fish's waste as fertilizer to grow, so using live plants will make your aquarium a more complete ecosystem. If you want to learn more about the Nitrogen Cycle, Cory at the Aquarium Co-op YouTube Channel has a great video that illustrates how it works.
(** If you don't want guppy babies, order males only, please. Our fish are kept and bred as a colony and adolescent female fish are usually bred by tankmates as soon as they are fertile.)
Hi, I'm Henry Hunter. I am 16 years old, and my siblings and I have been raising and selling fish since February 2019. We started with 1 ten gallon fish tank, as many people do, and a few guppies, platies and a couple of "cleaner" fish. What started as a casual hobby and a biology/chemistry lab quickly turned into a passion for my brother, sister and I. By June 2019, we were running a total of 7 aquariums, each with it's own breeding project inside. Now we are up to 26 tanks, some of which we moved to the fish room we are building in our parents basement. We are still growing, and have plans to add another tank rack soon, including a system for growing out young bettas that are aging out of their spawns and getting aggressive with their siblings. We learned a lot from other fish-keepers both local and from fish people online. Our mother has kept fish on and off since 1984 as well and is a great sounding board for ideas and source of advice.
We strive to keep our aquatic friends happy and healthy. New arrivals are held for health observation for a minimum 3-4 weeks before being added to any of our project colonies or introduced to our breeding fish to pair off (depending on species.) Currently, we only have for sale, fish we have raised ourselves in our own aquariums. We do not sell any fish that may be from imported sources at this time, (although we may occasionally list for adoption a fish that we purchased for breeding that didn't work out for us.)
My older brother, Charles (18), has high-functioning autism. He adores plecos, angelfish and other cichlids. He would love to someday soon be able to make a living selling beautiful aquarium fish. My sister and I love guppies, bettas, cloud mountain minnows and other community tank fish.

We are Charles, Henry and Anna Hunter and we have been raising our own beautiful fish for over 3 years now. We have learned a lot in our aquatic adventures and would like to facilitate our fellow aquarium adventurers to learn and grow, both new to the hobby and those who have been doing it for years. We are happy to share our knowledge and answer your questions in a friendly manner. If we don't know the answer, we will try our best to connect you to a fellow aquarium adventurer we think can help you.
